چکیده

Implanted tumors and methylcholanthrene Carcinogenesis increase the turnover of phosphorus in the total nucleic acids of histologically normal DBA/1J mouse skin. As the implanted tumors progress for 6 days, the turnover rate of nucleic acid phosphorus in the histologically normal skin increases to 4 times that of control skin from normal DBA/1J mice. At this same time, 68% of the histologically normal skin implants from the tumor-bearing mice develop into lymphosarcomas when implanted into normal DBA/1J mice. Painting mice on the dorsum with methylcholanthrene re sults in a decrease in the turnover rate of nucleic acid phos phorus of the painted skin. However, the nucleic acid phos phorus turnover of ventral unpainted skin from the same mice is increased as painting progresses. After six weeks of painting, the ventral unpainted skin, though histologically nor mal, develops into a lymphosarcoma when implanted into nor mal DBA/1J mice. This transplantability occurs after the appearance of papillomas on the painted area.

Effect of Audiogenic Stress upon Methylcholanthrene-induced Carcinogenesis in Mice.

DBA/1 (audiogenic seizure-susceptible) and A/Jax (seizure-resistant) mice were subjected to bell-ringing sound and an approximate 80-90 per cent effective carcinogen ic dose of 20-methylcholanthrene and observed for time of tumor induction and ulti mate fate. There was a delay in the time of tumor induction (latent period) in DBA/1 mice subjected to audio stimulus as compared with DBA/1 control...

Inhibition of 3-methylcholanthrene-induced skin tumorigenicity in BALB/c mice by chronic oral feeding of trace amounts of ellagic acid in drinking water.

Chronic p.o. feeding of small amounts of ellagic acid, a naturally occurring dietary plant phenol, to BALB/c mice in drinking water afforded significant protection against skin tumorigenesis induced by 3-methylcholanthrene, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon carcinogen. A significant increase in the latent period for the development of skin tumors by 3-methylcholanthrene was observed in the ella...

Antitumor activity of lentinan in murine syngeneic and autochthonous hosts and its suppressive effect on 3-methylcholanthrene-induced carcinogenesis.

The antitumor effect of lentinan in syngeneic and autochthonous tumor-host systems and its suppressive effect on 3-methylcholanthrene (MC)-induced carcinogenesis were confirmed using DBA/2 and SWM/Ms hosts. The regressive activity of lentinan against the solid form of Sarcoma 180 was the most effective in DBA/2, SWM/Ms, or A/J mice and less effective in C3H/He or C57BL/6 mice. The growth of a s...

The effect of visible light on the development in mice of skin tumors and leukemia induced by carcinogens.

The absence of light enhances epidermal carcinogenesis in Swiss albino (9) and C57 black (10) strains of mice painted with a solution of 3,4-benzpyrene. It now appears that the presence or ab sence of light affects the response of mice of the dilute brown (DBA) strain to percutaneous ad ministration of either 3,4-benzpyrene or 20-methylcholanthrene by altering the incidence of not only skin car...
